PETALING JAYA: Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar is reminded not to politicize the state's water supply problem because of his actions involving consumer health.
Exco Infrastructure, Public Utilities and Agro-based Industry Minister Zaidy Abdul Talib said the state government was working on resolving water supply issues in four affected Selangor districts.
"Noh Omar is actually ignorant of what's happening. We have to close the plant (Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment) due to pollution, "Zaidy said.
"We do not want to give dirty water to consumers. He (Noh) has tried to manipulate an issue that he is not clear, "he told FMT.
Exco said this in response to Noh's statement alleging that Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali "was busy politicking until he forgot the people's problems".
According to Noh, the Selangor Government failed to care for the cleanliness of Sungai Semenyih which became the source of water supply which was important until pollution.
Yesterday, Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili said the authorities were still investigating the source of pollution, suspected to be from the nearby industrial sector.
"It needs to understand that the plant area is vast and the recovery process is underway," Zaidy said.
"We have also asked the public to report immediately if they find any suspicious elements that cause the pollution to occur," he added.
Pollution at the Semenyih Water Treatment Plant caused residents in Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang to experience water disruption since Friday. Starting yesterday, the water supply is reported to be 96.7% recovered based on the Selangor Water Supply Sdn Bhd (Syabas) status.
